NĀMAKA - ‘Hawaiian Goddess of the Sea’
Nevada Marble (Pink)
This pink marble piece has a wild look about it. When I was carving this sculpture I began to envision crashing waves and the beautiful violence of the ocean. One side shows the crashing of incoming waves and the other, the receding tide. Nāmaka is the older sister of Pele, the goddess of the volcano and is often portrayed as the fierce goddess of the sea; feared for her power to create strong tides that destroy land.
